I hadn't heard of Jorge Soler until a month or so ago, when rumors of the Cubs interest in him started circulating. Soler, though apparently quite a way from making it to The Dance, sounded like a very legitimate prospect with plenty of upside potential. It appeared as though the pens were hovering over a contract about to be signed... then silence. I haven't heard a peep about this for while now. Any further news? Are the Cubs still in the mix?

Everyone is still waiting on his work visa and for him to become an actual free agent. Nothing can happen until then.

The Cubs are very definitely still in the mix.

I enjoyed reading on the Bleacher Report the blog by Brett, in reference to the "imminent" signing of Soler by the Cubs. So true how things get misconstrued... and frustrating. We, as fans, eager to get news or up-to-date intel on the goings on, are too often fed bogus, incorrect and/or exaggerated drivel. On the score yesterday, I also heard a reference to the source of the Soler signing story. It was hinted that what Peter Gammons was reporting (Soler was probably going to sign with the Cubs) was most likely true because Gammons plays in a band with Epstien. Of course, we now know (thanks to Brett!!) that what Gammons ACTUALLY said, was not quite what they were reporting.

My gut is telling me that Soler, when he DOES actually sign, he will sign with a team other than the Cubs. Wait... that was my PRE-THEO mindset! Perhaps with the new front office, big deals are more likely!

FYI BleacherReport is a horrible, although slick looking, baseball site that makes stupid top 10 slide shows and reports random musing as valid rumors. THIS is BleachetNation the jewel of the Cubs blog/news sites. I think the similarity of names confuse many people, I know when I talk about BN to the uninitiated they sometimes frown because they are thinking BR. Someday I expect Brett to have a highlander-esque battle and scream "THERE CAN BE ONLY ON."

But yes another quality post by Brett over on the main board, and Blue nice to see another regular on the message board.

I wish Bleacher Report had been more prevalent when I started BN (BR started just a few months earlier, and I hadn't heard of it - like most folks at that time). Would have gone with a different name. But, by the time BR became the nightmarish behemoth it's become, it was too late to change.

Time to find Sean Connery and train buddy! Does anyone know who funds BR its got to be a major media group, they may suck but they are polished and have a major footprint in searches and news grabbers.

You used to get called the Bleacher Report all the time, it hasn't been as bad lately. Maybe because word of mouth has destroyed the credibility of the web site full of 12 year old kid's top 50 lists. While Bleacher Nation continues to improve and grow in numbers and reputation.

My bad... count me as one of those that inadvertantly confused the names. In my post, I MEANT Bleacher Nation.. sorry, I won't let it happen again. My mind had somehow lumped to two together, and looked at them as the same. (not sure how I didn't see the difference, but my wife DOES tell me that I must have early-onset Alzheimers) In fact, the other day, I accidentally ventured onto the evil empire and thought "wow, Brett has made a lot of changes lately!"

BleacherNation is where my preference lies...

It's about time for some more Soler news isnt it? Seems like it has been forever since we have heard about his residency with the DR (or lack thereof).
