The Chicago Bears announced their list of inactive players for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints, which features newly acquired receiver Dontrelle Inman.
Head Coach John Fox wouldn’t rule out Inman from making his Bears debut in Week 8, citing his smarts and familiarity with the offense because the Chargers run a similar system. And even though Inman was seen playing catch with teammates this morning at the Mercedes-Benz SuperDome, he’ll have to wait at least two weeks before he starts catching passes from Mitch Trubisky in games of consequence. In the end, a short work week and a quick turnaround for Inman and the Bears are likely main reasons Inman is sitting out on Sunday.
Running back Benny Cunningham returns to the lineup after missing Week 7 with a hamstring injury. Cunningham will presumably return to his role as the team’s lead kick returner, though it’s worth noting he’ll join a crowded backfield with starter Jordan Howard and back-ups Tarik Cohen and Taquan Mizzell. Perhaps this situation will lend itself to the Bears using Cohen as a receiver more often.
Defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris is out after suffering a hamstring injury while covering a kick against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7. His absence pushes defensive tackle John Jenkins onto the active roster for the first time in 2017. Jenkins played 49 games (22 starts) for the Saints from 2013 to 2016.
