Wasn't this one of the many sub-plots in Fletch?

I've never seen/heard/read Fletch, so I can't say.

This may not be the time or place for this, but I am aghast! Funny movie, better book.

Luke I hope this is a generational thing and your under 30 because if not I'm very, very sad you don't know Fletch.

Does this have anything To do with the space program?

Was there a shuttle launch that day?

I guess I just hear weather and the Cape and immediately suspect NASA is involved.

I'm not under thirty, but I'm not much over it either. I managed to miss all the culture (can I use that word?) of the 80s, and about half the 90s.

Is it significant that he'd planned to go to Cape?

Did they call the hotel he was supposed to be staying at?

Is there something special about the detective who made the call that led to finding the man? In other words, could anyone else have looked at the evidence and made the same call, or was it something special about that particular detective that made him able to figure it out?

If we knew "why" he left his wallet at the bar, would we be in a better position to answer the ultimate question?

No, and no.

And there might be some extraneous (but accurate) info in the story that could turn out to be a red herring. Or not. Or maybe significant in a different sense.

is the officers call relevant?

Eventually, the weather did clear up.

Yes, the detective's call is relevant.

Yes, but maybe not in the way most of the questions seem to be leading.

Did they call the hotel he was supposed to be staying at?

At some point, I'm sure, but that is not the one call the detective made.

Is there something special about the detective who made the call that led to finding the man? In other words, could anyone else have looked at the evidence and made the same call, or was it something special about that particular detective that made him able to figure it out?

No. Yes.

If we knew "why" he left his wallet at the bar, would we be in a better position to answer the ultimate question?

Yes.

Was there a clue in the wallet?

Was he kidnapped?

Did he leave the wallet on purpose?
