In my experience, Cubs fans have tended to do the exact opposite of that. It's only in the last two years or so that we're a bit more fatalistic about positive Spring performances.
It beats the heck out of having the least hits.
Couldn't agree more. Lots of people say, "It's just spring training, it doesn't matter." But it really does. If everyone sucked people would freak out, but when they do well people are just like meh whatever.
Your take on Spring stats is right by me: they aren't meaningless, but they aren't necessarily predictive of breakout (or down) seasons.
