Did Mrs. Fred die during child birth?

Not very long after childbirth.

So, shortly after birth Mrs. Fred dies. Then Fred gives his daughter up for adoption. Being a small town when his unknown daughter is of age they meet and get married. Neither one knows they are related. They play cards with friends and the friends figure out who the daughter is. They discuss telling Fred. Later Fred is arrested and the daughter is in shock.

So is the only thing left how the friends knew?

They saw the blood type and the age of the daughter along with the resemblance to Mrs. Fred. Is that right?

Is knowing that Flora and Fred shared a rare blood type and were from the same small town, and that she is about the same age as Fred's orphaned daughter enough for Jane and Tom to figure it out?

Or was there another key piece of evidence that lead to their deduction that we are missing?

This pretty close.

The rare blood test + the very small town + the relative age was the key in figuring out who she had to be.

Hmm, so what seems to be missing isn't, how were Jane and Tom able to figure it out, but how come Fred wasn't able to figure it out? Cause he had all of those same pieces of evidence.

Did Fred think that his daughter was dead? And if so, did Jane and Tom know otherwise?

Or, does Fred have any mental issues?

No, N/A, Post traumatic stress syndrome consistent with being wounded on a battlefield would be all.

Did the friends keep in touch with Flor's adopted family?

Did they recognize Flor instantly?

Yes. (I think most military vets from that era did... could be wrong on that, but this one did anyway).

No.

No.

Also, as a Public Service Announcement:

Next week is looking like it will be fairly busy for me, so I doubt I will be able to run the weekly puzzle/story thing. I should be able to pick it back up after that, though. If anyone else wants to step in and take a crack at one, have at.

So basically this is a reverse Oedipus story.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but in a sense.
