I’m not going to lie to you and say that I’m upset about the result of that game. From where I sit, the Bears losing that game and the coaching staff once again absorbing a healthy chunk of the blame is about what you’d have wanted to see today. And then you want to see some change tomorrow.
As far as the actual performance, it’s still hard to evaluate Mitch Trubisky’s development with such a limited amount of trust and usage. He was acceptable in a very conservative offense, but that’s about it.
On the other side of the field, Jimmy Garoppolo looked measured and confident, and he didn’t feel much in the way of pressure from the Bears’ front seven. He wasn’t a world beater in his first start for the 49ers, but he did give a glimpse of the solid quarterback he can be. And he’s obviously more developed than Trubisky, but that’s to be expected.
Tarik Cohen showed off every aspect of his game, including a magnificent, direction-changing punt return for a touchdown. Kyle Fuller had some huge moments, which was very nice to see.
