Cubs Fact:

On June 30, 1959, Cardinals great Stan Musial drew a walk on a wild pitch and attempted to go to second base. Cubs third baseman Alvin Dark fired the original ball to second base, but so did pitcher Bob Anderson with the umpire-issued new ball.

How would you like to be covering 2nd base and having a runner and two balls converging on you all from different angles?

I used to like Pujols. Then he did the smart thing and chased the dollars in SoCal, so now I have an irrational dislike for him.

Also, I enjoyed Theriot while he was a Cardinal - all those TOOTBLAN's and double-clutches!

Back to the original post. Which ball is the live ball? Or was the play dead and Musial returned to 1st?

Anyone know how that play was ruled? Did he get to second safely?

Btw was when I first read the thread name I thought it was "Musical"

Fittingly, one umpire ruled him safe and one ruled him out. Here's a link to a more complete account of this hilarious story. (toward the bottom of the article)

Ok, so call me stupid but I didn't know what TOOTBLAN was so I googled and got this from Urban Dictionary:
1. TOOTBLAN
Acronym for Thrown Out On The Basepaths Like A Nincompoop.

Baseball statistic invented for Ryan Theriot of the Chicago Cubs, for his penchant for ill-advised steal attempts and general lack of skill running bases.
Theriot's current TOOTBLAN number is 19.

I guess Theriot has contributed at least something to baseball.

So I did some digging on the origins of TOOTBLAN (I just assumed its been around but never knew it was a Theriot result) but I found this:
