It's the first game of the season, and the first Game Thread of 2012. I figured there was no reason for us not to get things kicked off a little early, since I expect this Game Thread to go nuts tomorrow (as it should).

Stephen Strasburg, RHP 1-1, 1.50 ERA (2011)

vs.

Ryan Dempster, RHP 10-14, 4.80 ERA (2011)

No Tony for us on Opening Day, so I'm not sure where the Cubs will get their grit or scrap...

Sadly I will be unable to watch the start and most of the game, ya now for the kids (daughter's preschool has a day at the Zoo event). So have fun without me :(

We'll try to get by, but obviously it won't be the same.

I will be in the car most of the afternoon, but I will still be within WGN range. I won't be able to post, but I will be with you folks in spirit.

So, it sounds like it's mostly going to be me dropping F bombs at every pitch on the corner I thought was a strike.

Can I give it a premature "Fuckity, Fuck, Fuck, Fuck!!!"

Feel free to copy and paste that wherever appropriate.

Wow. Opening day is different here.

Wait it isn't. Opening was like that most of my life.

Hey, did you sneak a radio (transistor for me) into school, and snake the earphone under your shirt and behind your ear so that you could listen to opening day in class? Or was that just a New England thing?

I'll be around. Unless I'm not, in which case I won't be around.

I'll be working on a memo all day, but that hasn't stopped me from participating in the past! I have Strasburg on both my fantasy teams, and I'm thinking of benching him because I want to freely cheer on every Cubs walk, hit, and homer tomorrow. Here's hoping the ST bats traveled north!

I'm over ready. I just have to get the office Straightened up for the congressman coming in on Monday (gotta love photo ops). Also ecstatic to hear that I can now watch the game at home and not have to drag the kids somewhere else to watch it.

This whole work thing sucks. The last four years, I was able to just skip class to watch the games; now I have to DVR the game and avoid BN, Twitter and Facebook til after I watch it.

I have precious few vacation days, but one is being used today. I have burgers ready to grill, I have relatively cheap beer and a 52 inch tv just waiting for baseball.
