No, I'm not posting this JUST because the two "good" relievers in the pen shat the bed today. I actually posted recently that the currently construction of the pen makes me a little nervous.

Carlos Marmol (we know the issues)

Kerry Wood (aging, injury-affected)

James Russell (great last year, but much higher-leverage role this year)

Shawn Camp (we know very little, and the Mariners released him - he was good in the recent past, though, at least)

Rafael Dolis (nice young arm, unproven)

Lendy Castillo (mostly a stash-away type)

That's really unnerving.

Does anybody have a weather machine so we can make sure every game the Cubs lead after 5.5 is called due to rain?

Brett, what's the difference between 65 wins and 75 wins? Really not too much. That's what your nervousness is about.

It's April 5. I like to feel like there's still a chance, at least until May.

To answer your question: NO WE MAY NOT! It's too depressing.

Corpas is still in Iowa. Beliveau may not have looked good in Arizona, but he has the stuff to be an 8th inning guy in the majors. Either could probably come to Chicago tomorrow if needed.

Dolis may be young, but I'm not really worried about him. He may not be quite as effective as a '11 Samardzija, but I doubt he'll be as ineffective as '11 Marmol. I'll take that out of a 7th inning guy.

I'd rather have an extra guy in the pen while the Cubs are carrying Castillo, but I'd rather carry Castillo all season than send him back to the Phillies.

Beliveau was my first ever autograph. He was a fave of mine prior to tonight, but now I seriously crush on him...

This seriously looks like the 2010 pen. I guess that means that in 2013 it will be the strength of the team.

We should just dump marmol to the orioles and as much as i like woody he needs to retire and be some kind of mentor for the kids.

I have a feeling that the bullpen of August will bear very little resemblance to the current bullpen.

The Pen certainly doesn't look like a strength right now, but Woody had a couple pitches that could have easily been called strikes and ended the inning with no runs scored.

Also, this was DeJesus first game at Wrigley it's going to take him a few more to get used to the winds. If he catches that ball no runs score in the 9th either. Nobody fucks with DeJesus...except the wind fucks with DeJesus.

Yeah. This.

A bullpen -- even a great one -- is gonna blow games throughout the year. It sucks that it happened on the first game yesterday, but if this is the low point of the season, I'll be pretty stoked.
