I have a truly bizarre team. I tried to take what I learned from the two we did last year, but man, I'm really not sure what I ended up with. Should be fun.

And Kudos to Ace for doing this on a Friday, when I probably wasn't going to get much work done anyway.

My team didn't really turn out the way I wanted it. I started off looking like the Yankees (I got a lot of high dollar free agents and was over budget). Then I took that roster and started looking for replacement players. In the end I ended up with a couple of high dollar players and then had to fill in with some players that I hope will have good games.

I tried the strategy I used last year, which didn't work at all. But I still think it's a sound strategy: overspend on the uber studs, and then use super cheapo guys in some of the non-studly slots.

If you have a stud in your line-up doesn't that make it a studly slot and if you don't have a stud in your line-up doesn't that make it a non-studly slot?

The way I see it, this is essentially a 300-way, 1-game playoff. So I decided the pitching matchups mattered most because we only get one shot. I tried to find a couple SPs facing weak lineups, and hitters that have historically crunched their opponent. (Aside: That took far longer than I thought it would, so I'm never doing that again.)

I went to sleep thinking I had a good team. But today I woke up with remorse because, in the end, this is baseball. And I bet more than a few hitters relished the thought of facing Samardzija last week, while few looked forward to hitting Grienke. But if you played the matchups last week you woulda lost because Jeff was the beast and Zack suct balls against the Cubs.

All that to say, I thought my strategy was sound. Even statistically-based. And now I'm convinced I wasted my time--any combination of players that get decent playing time and perform well today will win. Hell, the rain might be the biggest factor.

True although I did win like $200 last year playing in the low rent leagues. It should get done tonight.

I finished 26th last time, and was in 2nd place for a while. Hopefully I can crack the top 20 this time. In related news, Tony Campana is more expensive than any other Cubs outfielder.

i'm in, quickly drafted and tried to pick the sleepers. I noticed playing last year that the best way to win was to avoid the top players and hope that a sleeper pitcher shows up and dominates.
