I’m reminded of Leslie Nielsen in ‘The Naked Gun,’ getting a little to into his role as an umpire, aggressively calling strikes, and enthusiastically punching batters out.
Perhaps even before the batter has actually struck out.
But that’s just a movie, right? No way that could happen in real life, right?
Well …
Look, Shelby Miller’s a good pitcher, but he’s not so good that he can strike guys out on just two pitches.
Perhaps home plate umpire Jim Wolf was just experimenting with a new really emphatic strike two call.
In any case, I enjoyed how neither Anthony Rizzo nor Shelby Miller even flinched at the strike three call. They just hung out and continued to play. Maybe that would work for a correctly called third strike, too. Just refuse to leave.
