Let Anthony Miller Get You Pumped About His Future with Mitch Trubisky and Other Bullets

The Fourth of July holiday being on a Wednesday means I’ll clear some time this afternoon and evening to spend some time with friends and family where we’ll throw some food on the grill and reflect on what makes this country great. Eventually, the conversations will turn to football. Hopefully, this site has given you plenty of stuff to toss around the discussions you’ll have with your friends and family during the holidays.

  • It’s hard not to be excited whenever you see Anthony Miller’s name pop up, and it’s probably going to be more prominent moving forward. Miller recently launched his official website, where he expressed a great deal of optimism when bringing up Mitch Trubisky. “My main Mitch doesn’t shy away from it either. Working with him during OTAs and minicamp has been great. I see him every day, talk to him every day and we’re just building that chemistry. He’s a relatively new guy coming into the league and so am I, and we’re looking forward to tearing it up this year.”
  • You like seeing Trubisky and his receivers build a rapport, especially since there are so many new ones in the mix. But you absolutely love that he and another prized Bears draft prospect are bonding on the field. If the Bears are going to grow into contenders, they are going to have to be led by the players who are drafted and developed by the team.
  • If you look at the Bears’ roster, you’ll notice an overwhelming amount of change throughout the offensive side of the ball. And while there are new players at skill positions that are worth noting, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago serves up a reminder the Bears will go only as far as their quarterback takes them.
  • Among the moves the Bears made, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report notes that one stands out above the rest as far as risk is concerned. Moton rolls through every NFL’s riskiest offseason move, highlighting the Bears’ handing over of $25.2 million in guarantees to Allen Robinson as the team’s biggest leap of faith. There isn’t much of an argument against Moton’s claim, as the Bears are making quite the investment in a player coming off a season-ending ACL injury. Chicago is banking on Robinson reverting to his 2015 form in helping Trubisky grow into a franchise quarterback by being a top-tier pass-catching option. And while it’s easy to look back on how he took a step back in 2016 and that he missed virtually all of the 2017 season, but the concerns are real.
  • From where I’m sitting, the Robinson concerns aren’t as overwhelming as they would be in most other situations. Robinson has done everything to get into football shape heading into the 2018 season and looked to be making those strides late during the offseason training program. Seriously, I’m ready to see this guy in action. I’m pumped.
  • On the defensive side of the ball, they’ll need for their young players to do the same. Lester Wiltfong Jr. of Windy City Gridiron has a write up on safety Eddie Jackson that fires me up as much as Miller’s words regarding working out with Trubisky. Wiltfong lists Jackson as one of the 10 most important players for the Bears’ upcoming season, writing that he sees last year’s fourth-round safety as someone who has Pro Bowl potential. Jackson certainly has big-play ability (remember when he single-handedly beat the Carolina Panthers?) and high-end skill. Injuries plagued Jackson during his college career at Alabama, but didn’t sideline him during his rookie season.
  • Eddie Jackson’s rookie year provides a blueprint for players like rookie Kylie Fitts and free agent signing Aaron Lynch to follow as they try to shake the injury-prone label. Lynch has missed some time during OTAs with some minor injuries, but figures to be fully healthy when training camp rolls around. With Lynch on the sideline, he was able to watch, learn, and get a good look at what it takes to succeed in this defense:
