Marmol + $10m cash to any taker... nothing in return...

A steal for the Cubs.

Nobody would want to waste the roster spot.

Instead of trying to "fix" Marmol, or trying to dump him, maybe the Cubs organization just needs to repurpose him. Train him to work on the ground crew! He certainly knows how to spread sh... errr... "fertilizer" all over the field.

In all seriousness, if the Cubs were just giving him away and paying his salary, I think the only teams would take him are teams that are in a full blown rebuilding mode and are willing to gamble on him as an asset. That would include teams like the Astros or maybe the As (not sure if Beane thinks they are reloading right now or not).

Or the Cubs.

How about a team who's pitching coach got the most out if him in the past and who just lost their 43 yr old closer to an ACL tear?

I think he would look great in Yankee pinstripes!

The Yankees would be an interesting spot for Marmol. No way in hell they would use him to close, but he could help their depth after the Rivera loss. I think he still has nasty stuff, but is lost mechanically.

Of COURSE, we all know that IF, in some miraculous turn of events, Marmol happens to be moved to another team, he will promptly be a "fixed" man and will pitch "lights out", for the rest of his career....

The Yankees are paying Rafael Soriano 10 million a year for this exact situation, and they also have David Robertson, I'm pretty sure they don't want anything to do with Marmol.

I think we need to drop him out of the closer role. Get him into some blow outs and non vital situations. Trading him isn't going to happen, nor is just cutting him.

How about dropping him out of a moving car?

One thing is for sure...if he goes somewhere else he will promptly save 30 games without walking a single batter.

I know... we could disguise Marmol and whisk him out of the city. Yeahhh... put a non-descript sweatshirt on him, maybe over a turtleneck so he stays warm. Give him a pair of headphones so that he can jam to some tunes while traveling. If he wants, we could throw in a souvenir Cubs baseball hat that he can save for all of the fond memories.
