Are You Ready for the Bears-Browns Super Bowl? And Other Bullets

If the Browns can win a football game, don’t tell me the Bears can’t win a Super Bowl.

  • The updated odds of the Bears winning the NFC North are … better than you might expect:
  • Imagine what the odds will look like once the Bears’ offense gets going. Mitch Trubisky has a connection with Allen Robinson that looks like it could pay dividends, but the accuracy that made him a top quarterback prospect in 2017 has eluded him. Jordan Howard hasn’t found his footing yet, but I can the difficulty in building up a lather when you get just 29 carries in two games. While the offense is still a work in progress, I’d like to see the group take another step forward in Week 3 against the Cardinals.
  • At least the offensive line seems to have it together. If you’re a believer in Pro Football Focus’ grading scale, then you’re in for a treat. Charles Leno Jr. and Kyle Long both rank as the second highest graded players at their respective positions. Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth’s 82.4 grade is the only one better than Leno’s 80.8, while Long’s 79.8 grade trails only Tampa Bay’s Ali Marpet. The offense isn’t going anywhere without the lead of the five guys up front, so keep it up and the skill position players will follow suit.
  • Once the Bears’ offense is fully operational, guarding it is going to be tough when they are a threat to run several different plays from the same look:
  • This is probably what Trey Burton had in mind when he talked about “unguardable plays” during the offseason. If you’re a defense and you see a formation that could yield several different play variations, you’re forced to pick your poison and hope you chose correctly. It’s stuff like what is linked in the .gifs above that will bring excitement (and eventually points) to the Bears’ offense.
  • Here’s a thing worth re-visiting:
  • While we’ll certainly watch the growth and development of Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes, and Deshaun Watson with great interest, it would be wrong to act as if Trubisky wasn’t a highly sought after prospect. The MMQB piece on how the Bears went after drafting Trubisky is an eye-opener that’s worth re-sharing and re-reading when you get the opportunity.
  • It also had me thinking about the dots we were able to connect back in December when the 49ers and Bears squared off. I’d rather not beat a dead horse here, but it would be nice if some level-headed thought prevailed.
  • Could you imagine a scenario where the Bears didn’t take Trubisky in 2017? Of course you could. And if you couldn’t, William Ingalls of Da Bears Brothers walks you through how things could have unfolded had the Bears not drafted a quarterback in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
  • On the other side of the ball, Danny Trevathan expresses his belief that he won’t be the last Bears defender to win NFC Defensive Player of the Week award in 2018. At any given time, any of the Bears’ talented defenders can make a big play, swing the game, and make their case for player of the week honors. And I like how Trevathan says that everyone on the defense is looking to come away with the award every week. That’s the right attitude to take. Expect a swarming defense to take Arizona by storm on Sunday.
  • I don’t know how Trey Flowers is ahead of Khalil Mack among PFF’s highest-graded edge rushers, but I’ll assume he’s hulk-smashing offensive linemen with one hand tied behind his back en route to the quarterback:
  • Ah, yes. This is what MACKTION looks like:
  • Now, that is what I call a true commitment to the bit:

  • Aaron Lynch is trying to make the most of his one-year “prove it” deal, writes Chris Emma of 670 The Score. Lynch was a non-factor in Week 1 against the Packers, but the 25-year-old pass-rusher showed up under the bright lights of Monday Night Football. Lynch picked up two solo tackles, a sack, a tackle-for-loss, and a quarterback hit in the 30 snaps he played against the Seahawks. Reuniting Lynch with Vic Fangio (who was his DC in San Francisco) is something we’ve been waiting to pay off, but never got a chance to see it in action during the preseason due to various injuries Lynch was battling through. If he can stay off the injury report moving forward, the Bears being able to throw waves of fresh pass-rushers at opponents could create big things.
  • Yeah, I’m in a mood:
  • These numbers are mind-blowing:
