So, let's say Demp actually waives his no trade. What do you guys think we get back from him in the current market?

Heard people say a bull pen arm and low level prospect. I prefer 2bagger who can hit in the back of the order.

Damn, if that is all I'd rather try my hand at giving him a qualifying offer and get see if we can get the compensation pick.

Agreed...I'd rather try to get McLeod an extra draft pick to work with than another future possible bullpen option.

I may be wrong but I think you can't trade for a draft pick.

No...but if the Cubs make him the qualifying arbitration option and he still signs somewhere else, then the Cubs would get a compensation pick. And I'd rather try that than trade him for a minor league reliever.

But you are correct about not being able to trade for a draft pick.

We're talking about the compensation you get if we keep Dempster and offer him a 12.5 million (or whatever the qualifying offer ends up being) contract at the end of the year and if he declines we get a compensation pick at the end of the 1st round. Similar to how the Elias compensation picks used to work.

Demp to me is not worth 12MM next year. Rather get a bat.

Well, Soriano would have been out anyway. Right?

It looked really bad, but he had to try and get past Alvarez. If he stops, then he gets tagged out and Alvarez throws across for the double play. I guess he could've headed back to second and force Alvarez to make a decision...but it really looked bad.

Shall I mentally prepare myself for the Barmes 2 run homer here?

But they were 1st and 2nd (Soriano on second) so he was forced.

Man, the Cubs inability to get extra base hits is just irritating.....

They are not very good at clutch hitting. By they I mean your 2012 Cubs, if you wanted/needed clarification .....which I doubt.

I know...he was out if he kept going and he was out if he stopped. Really didn't have a good option there which is why he had to at least try to get by him.

Basically running into Alvarez was just the most efficient way out. Didn't require the Pirates to do anything.

Agree 100%. We should turn this into a drinking game. Every hitter that doesn't get an extra base hit = finish your drink. Starting now, GO!
