This one is recent, and it's ugly.

crype(adj, noun)- a once Hyped Chicago Cub prospect who turns out to be crap.

I have never been to Utah. I have only seen pictures. I know they have the Jazz(stupid relocation name) and a pretty good college football team. They also have some nice little pockets of religious fanaticism, complete with plural marriage. I have a feeling though, that it's not quite a "hotbed" for MLB ready prospects. In fact, you would have to think, in terms of high school athletics, it might even be in the lower 15-20 states. Apparently, in 2005, the Cubs didn't think that through.

P- MARK PAWELEK 2005 1ST RD #20

He had eye popping numbers his senior season. But who was he playing against? I would guess kids don't have the time to practice baseball a lot considering all of the church and chores they have to attend to. I know I am painting with a large brush here, and may offend some Utahns, but really...there is like a couple million people in the whole state. Enough of my ranting about Utah, let's get to Mark.

He is already out of the Cubs system at age 25. At 19, at low A Boise he went 3-5 with a 2.51 ERA. Those 3 wins account for half of his career minor league total of 6. In his next stop his ERA balloned to 8.31, and the arm problems started to mount. Now, I realize how tough it is to project and make picks in the amatuer draft, but when you keep missing by this much on 1st Round picks...you are bad.

Just for the record, two picks after Pawelek, a player named Jacoby Ellsbury was picked. 4 picks later came Matt Garza, then Colby Rasmus and Luke Hochever. Subsequent rounds saw Brett Gardner, Jeremy Hellickson, Doug Fister, and Austin Jackson.

These are some of the best young players in the game today, and this draft may even look worse in years to come.

We did get Donald Veal in the 2nd round!

CURRENT CRYPE ROSTER

HITTERS- Ty Griffen, Brooks Kieschnick, Darrin Jackson, Gary Scott, Ryan Harvey, Earl Cunninham
PITCHERS- Herman Segelke, Ben Christenson, Mark Pawelek

Don't forget that he tripped over his Playstation in the middle of the night "going to the bathroom" and broke his arm.
