I doubt the level of excitement and / or profanity will be anywhere near the game threads, but we may as well get one going anyhow.

We're just under an hour and a half away from the start of the festivities. The Cubs will pick three time before the night is over, and all three picks are guaranteed to be massively over hyped by Cub fans everywhere.

Prediction time.

Since I'm picking them, you know these guys won't be the Cubs' picks.

#6 - Albert Almora. They'd take Correa if he's on the board, but he'll be gone.
#43 - Alex Wood. Good college left handed starter. Sounds like a fit to me. High school lefty Hunter Virant is my next choice.
#56 - Duane Underwood. Another high school pitcher, Underwood is raw but has some potential.

I'd love to see Matt Smoral slide to #43, but that's pretty unlikely.

Late rumors from Goldstein (@KevinGoldstein) that the Royals may go completely off the board at 5. Could leave Zimmer/Zunino/Almora there for Cubs to choose from if Mariners do indeed take Correa.

I'd still take Almora over Zunino.

But I'd have to think long and hard about passing up Zimmer.

I think it's going to be Almora or a total wild card, shock move. I base that on almost nothing.

Wilken doesn't make the picks any more. The Hayden Simpson days are over. :) I would be perfectly ecstatic with either Almora or Correa.

Wilken will be in the room, though. If Epstein, Hoyer, and MacLeod are all abducted by aliens....

Doesn't Simpson have a little brother? Is he in this year's draft?

It seems like Appel, Buxton, Correa, and Gausman have 0% chance of reaching us. In that case, my big board would be something like this:

1. Zunino
2. Almora
3. Freid
4. Zimmer

So depressing--just watched the MLB report on the 2005 draft and how it was so stacked with talent that panned out. Of course, I had to run and check the Cubs' 2005 draft results. I didn't see a single name that has panned out. Fucking Cubs.

I'm not convinced the Cubs would tip their hand enough for anyone to know what they're planning. I almost think the more I hear a name (Correa/Almora) the less likely the Cubs pick them.

I think Team Epstein is pretty good at letting media run away with a common notion if it helps cover the team's real intentions.

I have an old-school gut-feeling about Fried.

Also, I loved any kind of food with "Fried" in the title, description, or cooking process, so that may be what's going on here.

And I did just have a corn dog (because they're awesome).

There could end up being a surprise player available for the Cubs at 6.
