#48225 Cubs Calendar - 6/17 - Instrumental Family Fun

Posted by Stinky Pete on 17 June 2013 - 01:05 PM

Former Cubs utility man, Carmen Fanzone (best name EVAH) is an accomplished player of these two instruments?

If one of them isn't a mandolin, Carmen Fanzone can go fuck off.

Well then, he is busy fucking off right now.

Good.  Fucking jerk.

The accepted word for this thread is prick.

"Good. Fucking prick."

#48095 Reasons why the message board is better than the front page

Posted by Stinky Pete on 14 June 2013 - 10:18 PM

So what if, and mind you, this is pure speculation, what if die hard is simply Brett's alter ego made to spice up discussions on the main page? Think about it. Brett writes all of this reasonable logical stuff and then thinks "So how can I contrast it? Oh, I know. I'll come up with completely ludicrous thoughts an ideas under an assumed identity." Over time, the character has become better developed and more absurd.

And gave us the board mascot.

Think about it....

( I hope I didn't just pull the mask off of ol' Lone Ranger.)

How about Gabby Harnett in 1930? I know that was a monster year for him.

Wrong player and year.

1930 must have been a fun year to watch with Gabby and Hack.

As I recall from Stratomatic, 1930 was absolute, Michelle Bachman like crazy.  I think the Phillies had two guys, Chuck Klein and Lefty O'Doul, hit over .380 and 30 hr's and finished last due to a 6.71 team era.  (That's close to how it was phrased on the marketing pamphlet.)  All eight starters for St. L. hit over .300.  Bill Terry won the batting crown and was the last person in NL to hit .400.  And of course, Hack.  Hack hit so well, it took over 60 years to count all of his rbi's.

Yeah, some guessing could get kind of dicey.  So I'll just take out the fun and give the answer now.   "Hebe".  That's what they called him.  One rookie actually thought it was his real name.

I was completely unaware that was a derogatory name, slur, slander.  Am I wrong for using the term "Heebee Jeebies"?

I'm pretty sure that "Hebe/Heeb" is a derivation of Hebrew.  I think of all the Jewish slurs that it ranks pretty low on the offensiveness list.  I'm fairly certain there was even a magazine called Hebe that was kinda like a Maxim for young jews.

"Heebie Jeebies", meaning nervous jitters or fright, emerged from vaudeville/traveling comedy acts at the early part of the 1910s/20s, I believe.  There's no evidence that it has anything to do with the jewish slur.  You're in the clear, Stinky!

Whew!  That's good.  Cuz them Jews give me....

#32755 Holliday's Late Slide

Posted by Stinky Pete on 16 October 2012 - 05:22 AM

Matt Holliday slid late last night. I think his slide defined the difference between playing good hard clean baseball and dirty pool. And it's not the first time. I have a vague memory of Holliday doing the same against the Cubs. (Help me out on that. I tried googling it but all I can get now is "Panda cubs on a slide" or articles about last night.)
Given how much I (And a large percentage of Cubs fans) hate despise and loathe the cardinals, I find it very difficult to view the situation from a neutral view point. How would I feel if Rizzo slid that late and hurt a cardinals second baseman? I truly want to be neutral and not just blather on guided by emotions. Although I did tweet that I would like to see someone on the Giants with a good hard "clean" slide into Left field in game three.
Nice article by Tim Brown on Yahoo. By all accounts Holliday is contrite and admits fault as much as a competitive ballplayer can. Of course, that and eight bucks will will get you a nice latte at Starbucks... And he had a shitty game after that play so that's cool.
BUT, by MLB standards, Holliday was within the rules. He stretched the unwritten rules but was within the written rules. And what happens in that situation? F'in chaos. Team A, "Now our team has to hit you." Team B, "Well, we didn't think you had to hit us so now we're going to hit you." MLB would do well to make some written rules so teams don't try to police it themselves.
I'm kind of thinking MLB might need something similar to "Late Hit" rules the NFL uses. If you slide late you are out of the game. Too drastic? Maybe they need to expand the interference rule to include behind the base. Really there is no reason for Holliday or any player to go beyond the base. Isn't that the reason for sliding? To stop on the base? When I started writing this, I had in my head something very severe. If your guy slides late and hurts my guy so bad he can't play, then your guy sits until my guy heals. Yeah, I know. Then we get phantom soccer injuries. So that would be too much.
What do you think? Was Holliday clean? Does anything need to change?

Not sure how BR's ranking system works, but apparently, #733 is the ultimate highest ranking one can obtain.

#31882 Complete Roster

Posted by Stinky Pete on 05 September 2012 - 05:34 AM

I made a little spread sheet with the Cubs complete roster with 295 Players and 9 teams. It's not the greatest thing and there are spelling errors I'm sure, but I was going to use it going forward to help me follow Cubs transactions in the coming months/years. Willing to share it. If you are interested, send me an email address in a message and I will get it to you.
