Saw the Cubs play in one of the last games ever at Shea Stadium (GOOD RIDDANCE) ever when I was in college in NYC. It took nearly two hours to get from my apartment in South Brooklyn to Flushing. I was excited to see Carlos Zambrano pitch live for the second time ever in a match up between two likely playoff teams, but when I showed up to the park around the 3rd or 4th inning due to the long subway ride the Cubs were behind 5-1 because Big Z was having one of THOSE starts. Thankfully, the Mets' pitcher that night was none other than Oliver Perez and the game was promptly tied in the fifth inning. Soriano hit an RBI double in the 7th, but Samardizja blew it soon after. It went into extra innings when D-Lee hit a RBI double followed up by an Aramis Ramirez home run. The much maligned Bobby Howry picked up the win and Kerry Wood earned a three-run save with a 1-2-3 inning. Box score here: http://www.baseball-...200809240.shtml
Also memorable was the two and a half (due to the heavy subway traffic) ride home with a bunch of pissed off Mets fans while wearing my Cubs gear because they were in the midst of a late season choke job and, while they weren't mathematically eliminated from contention just yet, they would be a couple days later.
