#52803 The Core

I don't get the hate for Barney. In a good lineup, you bat him 8th and eat the low average for occassional clutch hits and gold glove defense. He's young, cost-controlled, and provides a defensive highlight almost every game.

Not everyone in the lineup moving forward will hit .300 and be an RBI machine. There is a premium value for elite defense and I think the people who believe Barney is expendable are greatly under-valuing him.

You just described the type of player every team needs, but that in and of itself doesn't make said player part of the "core".  I would say that type of player is much closer to being part of the "crust".

Mug club?  Sounds like something I'd belong to as well....if I lived in Iowa of course.

I can't believe that anyone truely belives a competent GM will trade anything of value for Kevin Gregg.  Heck half of our fan base wants to run him out of town right now.  The only way he has any value is as a throw in to a team that needs a replacement level reliever.

The lack of a proper thread about beer is startling, guys.  We, as Cubs fans, should have a place to openly discuss the world of beer.  I love Beer Advocate, don't get me wrong, but I love the people here more.  And I love beer.  So, yeah.  To add some real substance to this post, I shall start by admitting that FFF Zombie Dust is my favorite, by far.  I could be biased since I am a born-and-raised Munster-ite, but it's freaking amazing.

Yeah I like Beer Advocate as well.  I do think that the site and the craft beer movement really has created an unintended monster.

I think the idea of real person reviews are great and help others learn about beers they may not have tried or been exposed to.  What I don't think is good is the idea that what one person doesn't like is crap beer.

I'm not going to tell anyone that Bud or Miller is better beer than any craft IPA, but that doesn't make either of those bad.  They are exactly what they are intended to be.  A decent American lager that is mass produced in a way that every can or bottle from Washington to Florida taste the same.

And yes!!! Fujikawa gets a win?

Which exactly why that is a statistic everyone should use to determine how good a pitcher (especially relief pitcher) is.

How is Samardjza looking, doesnt seem real efficient on game day. 50 pitches through 3? (Not coplaining about results)

22 in the first, 5 extra because of the error, so not terrible for a SO pitcher IMO.

#35713 Just curious... (THIS IS ABOUT THE ROTATION)

Baker was actually better than Garza when comparing years they both were injured. Baker in 2011 had a higher average innings pitched per game at 6.27, while Garza in 2012 was at 5.76 - Baker's WAR was 2.7 that year and Garza's 1.2 (take into account Baker had 3 more starts).

Somewhere, Twins fans are laughing.

You take Scott Baker, I'll take Matt Garza.

While Cubs fans are saying "we have both".

Little bit of a stretch there, but I agree with the premise
