#54136 9/11 and the World Series

Posted by justinjabs on 06 September 2013 - 11:03 AM

Guys, go look up "Nine Innings from Ground Zero." A really well done TV documentary about baseball's impact on 9/11. It should be pretty cheap on Amazon. I own it and pull it out every few Septembers to watch.

I'll jump in with a few late-night comments ...

First of all, don't insult the Goat and try to insinuate he is some large alcoholic just because he can appreciate the quality of a beer. He's a teacher and a positive contributor to society and that is making some large, crappy assumptions / accusations.

Secondly, I still - to this day - love the Rizzo/Cashner trade. One of the early moves of this new regime and I still love it. Rizzo and Castro are struggling this season, but I still believe in them as young pieces to the "core" - and I would take Rizzo's production every day over what Cashner provides every 5 days. Unless you're awesome like Stras/Verlander/etc, I'll take the position player in the trade most times.

For whomever mentioned Corey Hart, I think he stays with the Brewers on an incentive-laden deal. I doubt he gets the guarantee to start anywhere else, the Brewers need help at first (Juan Francisco is not the answer, I don't think) and he's got the history there. One of the few Brewers I like, he stays in Milwaukee.

As for the Book, I love it, read it on TWC's recommendation here on the message board. The first chapter changed a huge part of the way I look at baseball. I love wOBA and live and die by it, it makes so much sense as a base evaluation tool and is my number one statistic. When they did Stats Sunday on WGN and featured wOBA, it was one of my favorite broadcasts... they need to include that stat on every broadcast, in my opinion.

As a fan I gave Theo and Jed a free pass for the first few years. "Drank the kool-aid," as it were. But I read about the building (not re-building) project, digested it, and bought into it, for better or for worse. That being said, as a fan I want to see some improvement in 2014. That's the first year I'm looking towards. In 2013, I feel like on paper before Spring Training the Cubs had the pieces to surprise, but some injuries didn't fall the right way (cough cough Scott "Who?" Baker) and my Orioles-esque playoff hopes were abandoned. 2014, and definitely 2015, I would like to see results.

To get back to the main topic of the thread Spencer, I have really appreciated the output of Schierholtz (especially after how pissed everyone was at the signing), Valbuena's success when healthy and proving he could be a solid contributor until something younger and more long-term solidified, the early success of Junior Lake, the Dioner Navarro magic (backup catcher 2014!), and some of the crap that has been thrown towards the bullpen sticking. There's probably a bit more, but that's all I've got for now.

Last week's loss is upsetting but I am surprised I am playing this good. My #1 pick is on the DL and my bench is incredibly thin.

I would rather have (a "committee" of "closers") than Carlos Marmol as closer.

Bryan Salamone Law Firm:

He has worked as a Computer Engineer at a well known computer solutions company for the past five years; in which he was responsible for managing the engineering of hundreds of successful computer programs and software applications. He is also well versed inALL of the standard and new computer programming languages and programs.

It's a no-brainer.

You're welcome.

I literally laughed out loud. And I have a big, hearty, Santa Claus-esque laugh. Thanks.

It was a fun night! Safe and fun. Got a free mug and beer, tried a fishbowl. I remember pretty much everything except a confrontation outside of a pizza joint just before we turned in. Apparently I almost got into a fight with two Brewers fans (I was wearing my Cubs jacket) and said some...interesting things about Ryan Braun. Heh.

Thanks again guys. GO CUBS!

5) Soriano is going to homer tonight. (calling it.)

I totally called that bomb. If the Cubs win tonight I'm taking full credit!
