I had seen enough after 6 shutout innings (granted against a depleted Rockies lineup), but needless to say he was impressive.

·      6’ 3” – 6’4” room to grow and fill out; body and delivery similar to Kershaw

·      Nice easy delivery

·      Works fast

·      Good athlete

·      Composed for 21 (soon to be 22 year old)

·      Pretty quick to plate from stretch for a lefty

·      Pounds bottom part of zone

·      FB: Sat 89-91, but heard reports where he can get it up to 93-94

o   Left it up early in game, but really settled in after 1st inning

o   Some sink

o   More velo in body

o   Good command on both sides of plate

·      CB: 74-76

o   Big loopy biting, curveball; 11-5 action; really falls off; Kershaw like

o   Best pitch; out pitch; plus pitch

·      CH: 83-84

o   Good downward action, pretty hard changeup from velo perspective

o   Same slot and arm action as fastball

o   Struggled with command; but missed down

o   Potential plus pitch, just needs more feel and work with it

Overall I was very impressed with his outing especially as his changeup improved throughout the game.  If his changeup continues to improve no doubt he could be a #2 in a rotation.  Not sure if the velo is there for him to ever become a bona fide ace, but definitely would be a coup if we got him in a Garza trade.
