In Topic: Cubs Calendar 11/21/12 - Doubleheaders

27 November 2012 - 03:26 PM

Howdy. Newcomer here, but follow you guys on Facebook and Twitter.

I asked this same question on another forum (I have the same calendar, Phil. :)), but the correct answer is actually 20. I think the editors of that calendar need to do a little more homework on their trivia questions and facts because this isn't the first time they've been wrong!

Anyway, here's an excerpt from a 1997 article in the Trib by Bill Jauss:

"Back in 1945, when the Cubs last won a pennant, double-headers were more prevalent than ever. Government travel restrictions were imposed during World War II. Baseball teams played longer series of five, even six games. Double-headers were common. The 1945 Cubs feasted on double-headers, winning 50 of their 98 victories in 20 sweeps and 10 split twin-bills."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I came across this question on your site when doing research for this question on the other site.

Cheers,
Roger
