I'm actually successfully growing cucumbers for the first time ever.  I built a 16'x9' greenhouse last winter and have been growing the cukes inside since April.  They're 7' tall or so, trellised against the back wall, and lush.  I harvested a dozen or so on Sunday.  Gave a few to my neighbor, and peeled, seeded, and diced the rest.  Salted and rinsed them after 3 hours, and then jarred them with a sriracha/rice vinegar/soy combo.  They're a nice spicy accompaniment to just about everything.  Yield was about 5 pint-size mason jars.

Whoa, really. 7 foot tall cucumbers? That sounds scary...

I actually thought Die Hard was a woman at that time. May have even referred to him/her as such.

Totally.  I'm certain that when the Dick Tidrow stuff started happening shortly after his return, I referred to him as Dick Tidrow's aunt more than a few times.
Are we certain he's a he at this point? Has he made references in either direction?
Now that you mention it, I have never seen an indication either way. I just always automatically assume everyone is male unless they have an avatar proving otherwise. Even then I have my suspicions and look for the adam's apple.

Yea, probably about 9/10 people claiming to be women on the internet turn out to be guys. Most of them are just Brett wearing a wig, actually.

It's just so weird. It's like if your decrepit grandpa started tap dancing. You'd be happy for him for tap dancing. But at the same time, you don't trust it. You expect him to break a hip or an ankle at any moment. The image is just so unacceptable to your brain that you can't enjoy it.

That's what watching this Cubs offense is like right now.

Edwin's lookin' good! Think he may have felt challenged/inspired by Shark's performance last night.

Holy moly, looks like you’re right:

The NL record is/was 18, according to Baseball Almanac.

How about: Hack Wilson's record of 190 rbi's in 1930 was broken by Hack WIlson with 191 in 1999. Is that cheating?

I was wondering why all of my posts hadn't been getting dozens of likes. It makes sense now... the likes are there, I just can't see them. My false-sense of confidence can go on unhindered!

#43574 Who Saw Hawk on MLBTV Yesterday

Posted by SirCub on 26 April 2013 - 01:04 PM

What I think is silly is that listening to his (and many anti-saber lobbyists) arguments, its very clear that he hasn't taken any time to actually look into what the sabermetrics have to offer.

He talked about all the things Harold Reynolds did to be a great player: playing defense, stealing bases, turning double plays, etc. without realizing that sabermetrics actually quantifies all of that. It's the traditionalists who undervalue those things way more than sabermetrics analysts.

But yea, Hawk's a bumbling idiot. No surprise there.

I don't know why I'm wasting my time after Spriggs has parted the clouds and given his gift of knowledge already, but I'll guess it was Kansas City.

Gotta save the big guns for the divisional games.

#36314 Is integrity subjective?

Posted by SirCub on 23 February 2013 - 07:59 AM

I think that most people tend to see integrity as a solid line, that they won't cross, rather than a blurry one. But what they probably don't realize is that the line moves a lot, whenever their perspective changes. Breaking bad is a great show, that follows the path of a man whose moral code is constantly adapting for the extreme situations he finds himself in. By the end of the show, he has done some terrible things that he would have never done at the outset, but he can justify them all, to himself at least.

#34998 Chicago Cubs Quiz

Posted by SirCub on 14 January 2013 - 07:02 PM

I got 141, but I did cheat on some by typing their names into google to see the correct spelling. The Cubs have had a lot of middle infielders with funky names!

Also, its a lot of fun to see the names that you missed (read: wiped completely from your memory) and see how you try to come up with them.

ie- "Hmm, I feel like I don't have enough 'lazy' black corner outfielders with 'character problems' who were actually just good, but not that fast. Who am I missing?"
