Laughing Because It Isn’t the Cubs: Matt Holliday Out After Appendectomy

MLB News and Rumors

More sCardenfreude. Yes, it’s true that this was widely reported yesterday, but (1) being that it was April Fools Day, I thought it prudent to wait, and (2) there still wasn’t much information available on prognosis because the surgery hadn’t been performed yet.

Enough setup: yesterday, after experiencing abdominal discomfort, Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday had his appendix removed (before it burst). The surgery was a success, so it’s ok to laugh about the comedy of errors befalling the Cardinals. The timetable on Holliday’s recovery is still a bit unclear, but reports suggest it could be as short as a week, or as long as three weeks. In the meantime, guys whom you haven’t heard of, but who will undoubtedly rake – like Jon Jay and Allen Craig – will fill in.

Had Holliday’s appendix burst, he could have been out more than a month. The situation also would have been considerably more dangerous for him, so I’ll leave it to your conscience to decide whether you’re disappointed or not.
