World Series Miscellany: Another Blowout, But In the Other Direction

MLB News and Rumors

royals logoIt won’t be a sweep, which is probably music to FOX’s ears. It already didn’t get what it was hoping for in Game 1 – the worst World Series Game 1 rating in history – and the possibility that there would be only four games was probably double rough. MLB couldn’t have been pulling for a sweep, either.

  • It was another blowout, though. The Giants and Royals battled closely early, but a five-run sixth inning, capped by a three-run Omar Infante homer, gave the Royals a 7-2 win. Each starter, Jake Peavy and Yordano Ventura, made it into, but couldn’t make it out of, the sixth inning. The Royals’ bullpen was expectedly nails, and the Giants’ bullpen was not.
  • Speaking of which, there was a dust-up when Giants reliever Hunter Strickland gave up that homer to Infante, and appeared not to care for something Salvador Perez did or didn’t say when he scored ahead of Infante. So Strickland started jawing, Perez did a little, “who, me?” and the dance was on. Benches cleared, though there weren’t any kinds of physical altercations. You can see the highlights of the sixth, and the mostly-non-skirmish here:

  • The series moves to San Francisco now tied at one. Game 3 is Friday at 7pm CT, and will feature Jeremy Guthrie facing Tim Hudson.
