Although he did go to AAA Iowa with some adjustments to make at the plate (more whole field, fewer ground balls), the Cubs mostly wanted Kyle Schwarber to simply get comfortable again.
They wanted him get his swagger back by hopefully beating up on AAA pitching after himself getting a little beat up at the big league level.
Before last night, the results had been only a mixed success, as Schwarber had some very long singles, but also a large number of strikeouts. Last night, Schwarber added a couple long homers to the AAA resume.
The first was yanked over the fans in right field:
The second was a monster to right center:
It’s good to see Schwarber have a game like that, and hopefully he’ll have more for as long as he’s at AAA. Given his ability at the plate and natural power, he should be crushing the pitching there.
Through five games, Schwarber sports a .368/.429/.684 line, though he’s struck out in 9 of his 21 plate appearances.
