#BNBlogathon Check-In: Hour 8

Chicago Cubs Rumors, Meta

I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 40 hours straight, until a little past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

Total Posts So Far:

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:

The Yankees did wind up getting Jaime Garcia, which means they can more comfortably – but not urgently – pursue Sonny Gray. The Rangers are gonna deal Yu Darvish, but not to the Cubs.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

Even as everyone recognizes the Yankees are the clear leaders for Sonny Gray, the Cubs do continue to come up for mention. Without tapping the big league roster, which is not desirable at this point, I don’t think there’s a fit there with the Cubs. If you’re the A’s, are you dealing Gray for a group of three or four at the top of the Cubs’ prospect rankings? There are a number of guys I like in that group, but you’re not assured or even reasonably confident in big league impact.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

I guess I’ll just say it again: Getting Quintana when the Cubs did was obviously a stroke of both genius and good luck. A back-up catcher is coming, and probably a bullpen arm, too. Anything else would be gravy, and only if it presents a can’t-say-no opportunity for the Cubs.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

I hit up Starbucks for a venti iced vanilla latte, which is not the kind of sentence I ever envisioned myself typing about five years ago. Look, it’s good. Get off me.

Where I’m Writing:

In addition to Starbucks, I hit up Ann Sather on Broadway for my cinnamon roll fix, and did some writing there.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

I am having trouble regulating my body temperature – I get super hot, and then totally cooled down, and then vice versa. Pretty sure it’s not actually me, and is the AC kicking on and off. I don’t think I’m having hot flashes.
