Despite his feeling yesterday that the neck issue that forced him from last night’s game wouldn’t be a big deal, Cubs reliever Koji Uehara is headed to the disabled list.
Today, the Cubs are putting the 42-year-old righty on the DL, and calling righty Justin Grimm back up from AAA Iowa. For Uehara, the move is preventative:
Koji Uehara expected to go on the DL with a sore neck. Cubs being proactive and letting him heal. Grimm should be in SF soon ready for game.

Uehara’s been in something of a slump in the second half, so, even with Grimm’s ups and downs, and I don’t know that there’s much of a drop-off in efficacy here. Ultimately, when September 1 rolls around, both of these guys – if healthy – are going to be in the Cubs’ bullpen.
Grimm returns to a 5.18 ERA with peripherals to match. After a stellar June, Grimm was brutal in July (7.94 ERA, opposing batters hitting .279/.404/.442) before being sent down. He’s about as streaky as they come, so hopefully he’s on one of his ridiculous hot streaks for the rest of the season. The good version of Justin Grimm is as good as any reliever the Cubs have.
