Spring Training Miscellany: Cubs Continue to Own Spring Training, But Also Lose Hair

Chicago Cubs News

The Cubs continue to ROLL through the Cactus League, beating the Reds 7-4 today. Although they’ve had some ties, the Cubs have lost just once this Spring, in their opener against the Brewers. THE CUBS ARE GOING TO THE SPRING TRAINING WORLD SERIES!

  • I wasn’t able to listen to this one, but by the accounts of those who were there, Tyler Chatwood was solid today in his two innings. Justin Wilson threw another scoreless frame with no walks and a strikeout, and Carl Edwards, Jr., interestingly, threw two innings. [EDIT: I knew that seemed strange. Turns out the box score was wrong at first, crediting Edwards with one too many innings.]
  • Dillon Maples gave up a walk and a dinger in the 9th, and Rob Zastryzny allowed four hits for two runs over a couple innings.
  • Joey Votto went 0-2 with a walk, which means the Cubs basically owned him.
  • A little game action:

  • It was a packed one on this fine, temperate Saturday:

  • Clark chased down Billy Hamilton before the game:

  • The Respect Bald event before the game was a big success, as always, with a number of players and Joe Maddon joining fans in getting their heads shaved for a good cause:
