Chicago Cubs Lineup: Still No Rizzo and an Explainable Surprise at Leadoff

Cubs Lineups

Whenever you wake up and the Chicago Cubs have a chance of winning a series, that day is a good day.

Today is a good day.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Albert Almora, CF
  2. Kris Bryant, 3B
  3. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  4. Willson Contreras, C
  5. Kyle Schwarber, LF
  6. Addison Russell, SS
  7. Victor Caratini, 1B
  8. Jason Heyward, RF
  9. Jose Quintana, P

Obviously, the continued absence of Anthony Rizzo is notable and worth discussing, but without much new information there’s not much else to say. Hopefully, he heals up and is ready for the home opener tomorrow.

More immediately … Albert Almora is leading off today … against a righty, which is quite strange on the surface. But before you go thinking Joe Maddon has lost all faith in Ian Happ, allow me to point out that, well, one, yeah … Happ is struggling.

But two, Chase Anderson has some *extreme* reverse splits for his career:

259.1 IP v. Lefties: .223/.297/.383 (.298 wOBA)
310.2 IP v. Righties: .276/.332/.476 (.346 wOBA)

That’s about as extreme as any reverse split you’ll ever see. In that sense, getting Almora his much-needed big league experience against righties *today* makes a ton of sense. Set him up to succeed, right?

As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (1:10 CT).
