Uh, Oh: 4th Grader Skips School to Catch the Cubs … and Runs Into His Principal at the Game!

Cubs Humor

For the home opener, the official MLB Twitter account tweeted out a picture of a *classic* and commendable “Skipping School to watch the Cubbies” type sign held up by a fourth grader just under the historic marquee:

[Brett: I actually saw the sign out in the left field outfield, as we were sitting in the right field bleachers. It was good.]

Specifically, Tucker Steckman’s sign read “Skipping school … shh! Don’t tell Principal Versluis.” And I’m sure everyone in the stadium would’ve love to help him pull off his little caper, except maybe one person … Principal Versluis … who was also at the game.

And guess what, he was busted:

Of course, Tucker’s principal was also skipping school along with his own son … so the two were able to come to a happy understanding. “I saw him and I was kind of ducking down,” Versluis told the New York Post. “I didn’t want him to see me either. I’m here with my son, Aiden, who’s in fifth grade, and I called out sick for the day!”

Principal Versluis went on to explain that Tucker is an excellent student and person, and that all would be forgiven and forgotten. What an awesome little story.
