Enhanced Box Scores

The Cubs had an early baserunner on (zero or one out) in every single inning through the 8th, and they scored just once. The pitching will get the headlines for the bottom of the 8th inning, but the offense was really more the story. A disappointing story at that.

Carl Edwards Jr. will be cast in the role of goat for this one (not the G.O.A.T. kind), and I suppose that’s fair – he gave up some hard hits to the Albies-Acuna youth duo, and then couldn’t stay in the strike zone after intentionally walking the bases loaded. He’s still awesome, though, and since he always pitches in high leverage, the times when he screws up (as all players do from time to time), it’s gonna sting. Tonight it stung.

Meanwhile, Tyler Chatwood got great results through five innings, but was given a quick hook (despite a low pitch count and a mildly taxed bullpen), presumably based on the Braves busting out a whole lot of hard contact. Chatwood did not appear pleased to be pulled, and I expect we’ll hear more about it.

It was just one of those “thud”-like losses. Nothing that’s going to get me particularly riled up, but overall, it’s gonna make me worry slightly more about various things.

Ah well. Try to win the (three-game version of the) series tomorrow.
