Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Cardinals (7:05 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Sweep Louis, baby!

Let’s hope that’s actually a thing, as the Cardinals swept the Cubs the last time these two clubs squared off here, and now the Cubs look to return the favor tonight. Is it just me, or does it feel like the Cubs always seem to fall flat on getaway days? Maybe it’s just one of those things that sticks in my head because of years past (when it has been true), but here’s hoping tonight bucks whatever trend I may or may not be imagining.

Jose Quintana has been on a nice little hot streak lately, with three straight solid starts after an up-and-down start to his season. He pitched in that St. Louis series a month ago, and it was one of his worst outings of the year, with command troubles plaguing him at the time. I expect the Cardinals will be seeing a different pitcher this time around. Whether it gets the results we want to see, well, we’ll see.

Jack Flaherty, 22, has been fantastic this year for the Cardinals, who were reluctant to give him a full-time starting role for whatever reason until Adam Wainwright got injured for the seventh or eighth time. Of Flaherty’s eight starts this year, I’d call five of them very good. Two of the three rough ones, though, for what it’s worth, have come in his last three starts.

Flaherty isn’t going to walk many, and he’ll get his strikeouts. When he’s gotten in trouble, it’s simply been because he’s gotten hit. The Cubs will need to be prepared to do their own damage tonight.
