Chicago Cubs Lineup: Anthony Rizzo Gets a Much-Needed Night Off

Cubs Lineups

Tonight, the Chicago Cubs look to salvage a chance at a series win against the Giants in San Francisco. Here’s the lineup for Game 2.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Albert Almora Jr., CF
  2. Jason Heyward, RF
  3. Javy Baez, 2B
  4. Willson Contreras, C
  5. Addison Russell, SS
  6. David Bote, 3B
  7. Ian Happ, LF
  8. Victor Caratini, 1B
  9. Jose Quintana, P

After a rough night at the plate and in the field last night and a quietly brutal stretch (which may have some bad luck caked in!), Anthony Rizzo is getting the night off. Not only is this night off needed, it’s also well-timed. Like last night’s starter, Derek Holland has pretty significant lefty/righty splits:

Versus Righties: .358 wOBA
Versus Lefties: .225 wOBA

To that end, getting Rizzo out of there while he’s slumping is smart. Also, good luck, Jason Heyward. Hopefully, the Cubs right-handed bats do more for the team tonight than they did yesterday, and that starts with Albert Almora at the top. He’s the Cubs resident lefty-masher, so here’s to a big offensive night at the dish.

In Rizzo’s place at first, you’ll find the switch-hitting Victor Caratini, meanwhile David Bote continues to cover third in Kris Bryant’s absence. It’s rather strange to have neither half of #Bryzzo in the lineup at the same time, so let’s get this game in, get a W, and get to tomorrow, when it’s possible that both guys are back.

As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (9:15 CT).
