Cubs Minor League Daily: Cole Roederer Hits His First Homer

Cubs Minor Leagues and Prospects

His homer last night was the first as a professional for Cubs second round pick Cole Roederer. Unfortunately, since he hit it in Arizona, we don’t have video of that homer. In fact, we don’t have video of hardly anything from the Arizona Rookie League despite the teams playing in spring training facilities that no doubt have cameras laying around somewhere. We need a hero.

Fortunately Roederer has seemed right at home in the Arizona Rookie League (.346/.469/.538) and I would not be surprised if he were bumped to Eugene sometime in the coming weeks. Eugene and South Bend both have good video systems in place, so as soon as he does get bumped up we’ll start to get a better sense of just what this guy can do. For now, on the basis of zero evidence, I feel confident Roederer’s blast looked exactly like this.

UPDATE: Roederer himself got some video!

Other Notes

  • The winning homer for Iowa was just the second for Taylor Davis this season. On the other hand, his OBP is a tidy .372.
  • While with Standford, Cubs first round pick Nico Hoerner also spent time during the summer with the Northwoods League, where he played for the Madison Mallards. Nate Jelinek and the Mallards have put together a very nice article on Hoerner, his time with the Mallards, and some of his thoughts on being drafted by the Cubs.
