The Cubs got the second half started right with a win over the Cardinals. So let’s see if they can keep the good times rolling this afternoon.
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Addison Russell, SS
- Jon Lester, P
With another two hits (two doubles, actually) out of the leadoff spot yesterday, Anthony Rizzo extended his hitting streak to four games and brought his season-slash line up to a 102 wRC+. Given that he fits in naturally there and seems to be performing well, I genuinely think he’ll stay there for a while.
I’m sure it won’t be for the entire season – if he really gets going and another guy needs a “change-of-pace,” Joe Maddon won’t hesitate to change things up – but I continue to believe that could very well be a good long term spot for him.
Elsewhere, the All-Stars, Javy Baez and Willson Contreras, return to the lineup after getting the day off yesterday, and just in time … to face Luke Weaver, who’s been devastating against right-handers all season long:
Versus Lefties: .350 wOBA
Versus Righties: .272 wOBA
Lefties, however, have hit Weaver just fine this season, so hopefully Rizzo, Jason Heyward, and Kyle Schwarber can all keep their good times rolling.
Jon Lester is on the mound for the Cubs today, but we’ll have more on that in the Pre-Gamin’ a little closer to game time (1:20 CT).
