Can five runs feel like an otherworldly eruption of offense? Because five runs feels like an otherworldly eruption of offense right now.

The Cubs got two-run homers from Javy Baez and Kris Bryant tonight, with the bats generally hitting Diamondbacks pitchers very hard, even when the hits weren’t falling in. Willson Contreras has really been squaring the ball up (finally) over the past week. The product of getting a little more rest, perhaps? Makes you wonder.

Not to be lost in the relative Valhalla of offense, Kyle Hendricks was brilliant tonight, pitching effectively and efficiently against a good lineup in a tough place to pitch. He came up just one batter – well, one baserunner, actually, since the game ended on a steal attempt – short of finishing the game. Stud.
