REPORT: Mike Trout Signing UTTERLY ENORMOUS Extension with the Angels

MLB News and Rumors

Well, at least it was still pretty far off from his actual free agency that we never started obsessing about the possibilities of where he could sign.

Mike Trout is an Angel for life, and he can buy himself a continent when he retires:

THAT IS A CONTRACT.

Trout, 27, had a couple years left on his original extension with the Angels, but now converts that into a new deal that’ll pay him about $36 million annually over 12 years. Records have been obliterated, as they should be for arguably the greatest player in history, and now all other deals will pale in comparison to The Trout Contract.

Trout is a career .307/.416/.573 (172 wRC+) hitter, and he’s been even better than that the last two years. He plays quality outfield defense, runs the bases well, and has no red flags whatsoever. Trout’s career 64.9 WAR is already 89th in baseball history, ahead of guys like Ernie Banks, Ryne Sandberg, Billy Williams, Yogi Berra, Duke Snider, Mike Piazza, and Willie Stargell. TROUT IS 27.

If anyone was going to get this kind of contract, it was Trout. And and I’m not sure it really moves the market for anyone else, since he is so singular in this game. Heck, you could argue Trout is still well underpaid.

We talked about Cubs extensions a couple weeks ago, for what it’s worth.
