Impact Bat on the Way? Brewers Calling Up Top Prospect Keston Hiura

MLB News and Rumors

Considered by many to have one of the best pure bats in the minor leagues, today the Brewers will add Keston Hiura to their roster. And he could have an immediate impact on the second-place Brewers.

Hiura, 22, is hitting an absolutely absurd .333/.408/.698 at AAA this year, though that comes with the obvious caveat that it’s hard to know what to make of a guy’s ISO more than doubling from AA to AAA given what we know about the juiced ball at AAA this year. Then again, his .405 BABIP so far may suggest that he’s simply brutalizing the ball. Of course, it has come at a price: his 27.2% strikeout rate would translate to a much, much higher level in the big league without changes. So, again, it’s really hard to know what he’ll be right out of the gate. Could be a dominating bat at second base, or could be a guy who struggles to adjust in the big leagues while maintaining enough contact and power to be successful.

We’ll see soon enough, but Hiura is one of the top bats in the minors, so, yeah. Good day for Brewers fans.
