Throwing you back to 1990, when White Sox utility man, and a future broadcaster, Steve Lyons bunted for a hit. It was one of those rare occasions that arguably necessitated a headfirst dive into first base (to avoid a collision), which sent a rumble of infield dirt down Lyon’s britches.
And then he did this:
We all love baseball, Steve, but when those of us tweet stuff about taking off our pants, we’re just kidding.
It could have been much worse, of course – the dirt could have escaped to even more nether regions, and his embarrassing disrobe could have been more revealing.
Lyons later discussed the iconic moment:
It’s gotta be a little disheartening as a lifetime ballplayer to reach the big leagues, to last parts of nine seasons, and to be remembered by many solely for flashing your stylish undergarments. It’s probably also disheartening to finish with a career .252/.301/.340 line, but, hey, dude made the show and stuck.
