What do you think of as an offensive explosion in baseball? It’s all a bit arbitrary, of course, and it’s a moving target in recent years as we’ve moved far past the steroid era.
To me, if a team scores eight runs in a game, that’s a really strong offensive performance. When I see 10 to 12 runs, I think that would’ve been a fun game to watch. More than 15 runs gets special mention, and more than 20 runs is one of those historical oddities you definitely remember forever if you happened to have been watching it.
But how about … 33 runs!

New Mexico was a top 25 team coming into the game against Dallas Baptist, which underscores how baseball can do this to you sometimes. Incredibly, DBU hit only six homers in the game, but they were a ridiculous 19 of 34 with runners in scoring position! The write-up also notes that DBU, which has played 10 games, raised its team batting average by 40 points in the single game.
