I’m actually surprised this doesn’t happen more often. When it does, and when the pitcher doesn’t actually get hurt, it cracks me up.
Enter Reds catcher Chad Tromp, trying to throw out a would-be basestealer. His throw looks strong and true, except … something gets in the way:
D’oh. Plunked. Perhaps Tromp had been hit enough times as a batter that he subconsciously wished he could return the favor.
In which case, that’s not nice, Chad. Next time, throw it to the second baseman.
