Whose End of This Killer Manny Machado-Chris Davis Play Was Better?

Baseball Is Fun

chris davis diveAt this point, it’s too easy to say “Manny Machado did it again.”

We already knew he had an absurd arm before he did this earlier this Spring. And then he did this. The guy is a freak.

So, if we’re going to highlight his latest diving stab and ridiculous throw from one knee, we have to make it a little broader. For example, by pointing out that this is the second straight play like this where it wasn’t just Machado making a great play, it was also Chris Davis making a killer stretch and grab at first base.

Seriously, I’m not sure whose end of this play was more impressive:

Who you got? On the one hand, Machado had to dive to get the ball, quickly get up and transfer, and then make a freak throw from one knee. On the other hand, Davis had to track the ball and fall to catch it while holding a toe on the base like a wide receiver hugging the side line.

For narrative satisfaction, I want to say Davis’s end was the more impressive part. And it was really impressive.

But it’s still Machado. Like said: he’s just a freak.
