Edinson Volquez Wore the Wrong Cap, and a Clever Fan Later Got It

Baseball Is Fun

If you were watching the Royals/Mets opener last night, you probably noticed that, initially, Royals starter Edinson Volquez was wearing the wrong hat:

As you can see, the team was wearing some genuinely cool gold-embossed jerseys and caps, but Volquez must’ve mistakenly grabbed one of the standard Royals caps. After the first inning, he was informed of the mix-up, and came out to the mound wearing the correct hat.

But what happened to the “wrong” one?

Well, Paul Lukas has the fun story here at ESPN, involving a quick-thinking fan who was looking for a game-used ball when he saw an opportunity to nab a special hat before folks realized what it was. Just a fun side story from Opening Day.
