To be fair up front, Giants ace Madison Bumgarner is pitching through some flu-like symptoms.
But to be fun up front: Brewers infielder Scooter Gennett is a career .124/.147/.150 hitter off of left-handed pitchers. He has not hit a home run off of a lefty. Madison Bumgarner is an exceptionally good lefty.
But, baseball being the unpredictable beast that it is, here’s what happened today when Bumgarner inadvertently grooved one to Gennett:
That’s not even just a “oh hey, he barely managed his first home run ever off a lefty! How nice for him!” homer. That was a freaking rocket that went way up into the second deck. And it came on a 1-2 count!
Scooter Gennett's bomb clocked at 108.5 MPH off the bat… He didn't hit a ball that hard all last year. His hardest last year 103.64 MPH

Bumgarner also gave up a homer to Jonathan Villar in the game, by the way.
Opening Day. It’s fun.
