Sometimes the pun is a stretch. Sometimes there’s no way too avoid it. But given the sheer impressiveness of his debut, I’ll say Trevor Story earned that title. Let’s see if you agree.
Last night, Trevor Story made his Major League debut with the Colorado Rockies in a 10-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Moreover, Story, the shortstop, was stepping to the plate against Zack Greinke. No one was expecting anything memorable, because after all, making your Major League debut is hard enough, without facing one of the better pitchers of the last decade.
Somehow, Story made it work:
That’s right, Story – a shortstop (traditionally one of the least offensively productive positions on the field, but the spot most recently held long-term by Rockies star Troy Tulowitzki (big shoes to fill)) – took the Diamondbacks’ enormous offseason signing Zack Greinke deep not once, but twice in his freakin Major League debut. Now that’s a story worth repeating.
