Ah … the hidden ball trick. Every little (and, apparently, big) leaguer’s dream.
Against the Brewers, Jose Altuve tried to pull it off once … and here’s what it looks like when the hidden ball trick doesn’t work:
After a Chris Carter double down the left field line, Jose Altuve fields the ball in behind him at second base. At first, he pretends to have missed the ball completely with a pump fake towards first, but … Carter wasn’t even watching.
Then, like a kid sneaking cookies behind his back, Altuve tries to hide the ball from Carter and even puts it in his back pocket (no, seriously). The only problem is that Carter was paying plenty of attention, and easily spoiled Altuve’s nefarious plan. If you watch his lips, Carter even lets out a confused “…what?”
So, it didn’t work out this time, but you can’t blame a guy for trying. At at least now Altuve knows how to sneak sweet souvenirs home from the ballpark.
