Baseball is the chess of sports, and sometimes it requires savvy moves made at a moment’s notice. For example, with no outs and one on in the bottom of the 5th inning Sunday, Detroit second baseman Ian Kinsler let a pop up drop right in front of him and it was an an extremely smart play.
Check it out:
Because there was just one runner on the bases, the infield fly rule did not take effect and Kinsler knew it. Although he was still able to record just one out, he swapped out the speedier Colby Rasmus out for the slower Tyler White on first base. #Strategy.
I love how the crowd reacts, as if if Kinsler missed that ball due to some kind of inexplicable loss of ability. The fans and the Astros’ slow realization of what was happening is priceless. That was the right move and took some quick thinking and self-confidence to pull it off. Nicely done.
