Sometimes, a throw from the outfield is impressive because it is deadly accurate. Sometimes, like earlier this week, a throw from the outfield is impressive because it’s one of the fastest throws ever recorded. Sometimes, a throw from the outfield is impressive because of how much distance it covers on the fly.
Last night, Yasiel Puig checked all the boxes on one of the most impressive throws I’ve ever seen:

The announcer reactions to that play were pretty much spot on with what was going through my head when I saw the play. You watch it unfolding, and that should be a stand up triple every time.
And then Puig scoops the ball smoothly (as it’s moving *away* from him), and in a fluid motion unleashes the most perfectly-thrown, 310-foot cannon blast that lands in the only spot where it could have recorded the out … I’m just shaking my head at how incredible that is.
This throw will become one of the memorable ones from right field, right up there with the ones you remember from Vladimir Guerrero or Ichiro or Jose Guillen.
